A simple 3D fan would definitely be amazed at how far and great the 3D movie shave been developed whether they are native or simply a conversion of a 2D to a 3D movie. As long as “3D” is attached to the movie title, they would definitely buy a ticket. But for those die hard 3D fans and self – proclaimed analysts say otherwise.

Shooting a native 3D movie is far more authentic in terms of technicality and few loop holes in the cinematographic effects to come to life. Such value to the movie isn’t lost by a simple conversion. In fact, the only thing that 3D did, as the conversion was done, is simply to alleviate the movie effects into and make them into live reality itself. With that one movie fanatic would get to enjoy his or her favorite movie come to life and not simply a storyline being shown on a big flat screen. In fact, such goal is brought to heart by the conversion houses such as Prime Focus and Legend 3D as they seek out the best out of the best ways to upgrade their tools of conversion. In the years to come, one would definitely find it hard to distinguish a native 3D from a converted one.

Still the market of 3D fans are not 100% into accepting these converted films as the divided results in the survey taken that asks “Does the fact that the film is ‘real’ or converted influence your decision to watch it?” Out of the 515 focused 3D buffs, there were 285(55%) who answered yes while the 230 voted otherwise. This gets to show that 3D converted movies are far from getting a successful box office hit rating in the years to come. But then again, it is a slow process to movie goers’ acceptance and is already a great technological success.

Despite these divided opinion coming from 3D avid fans and 3D concerned fans alike, this year alone releases numerous 2D movies back into the movie houses with a revitalized 3D look. Some of these movies to expect are as follows: Men in Black 3, John Carter, Gravity, The Wrath of the Titans and The Avengers will be converted to 3D and of course, James Cameron’s Titanic, George Lucas Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Top Gun.

Many parents have feared to bring their little munchkins to movie theaters to watch a newly released 3D conversion of the child’s favorite Walt Disney cartoon tale. Two reasons do come to parents’ minds when justifying their fear: one, they think that the child would turn their favorite fairytales into their worst nightmares as objects come out of the screen and at them in broad daylight (i.e. Samara in The Ring) – quite a traumatic experience for such a young age and two, the child would hate them for the rest of their lives. With these, parents all over the world are skeptical with introducing the 3D world to their children for the first time. Some say that parents are actually depriving the good stuff and experience of magic from their children while the protective parents rebut with their “I’m just protecting my kid” statement. But when a five year old child would invite you to watch her favorite Beauty and The Beast Movie in 3D, would you turn her down or would you eat your fear and let her decide as to whether to enjoy or fear the world of 3D? Tom Burns has chosen the latter part of things. He had brought his five year old daughter, Charley, for her first ever 3D movie experience and the result: “4 lame stars.”

At the end of the movie, Tom asked his daughter how the movie and Charley answered that she liked 3D for objects came at her like magic and it made the Beauty and The Beast  movie her favorite 3D movie ever (even if it was her favorite movie in 2D). He then asked her how would she rate the movie with 4 stars being the best and zero being the worst. Charley answered, “I would give it four stars. But that doesn’t make sense. What does four stars mean? Why not ten stars? Why not a thousand? Four is lame.”

This gets to show that 3D does please even the curious and fearful eyes of a five year old.  To be given the chance to see a magical tale on a new cutting edge 3D scale truly brings the magic to life and children appreciate it more. Plus, being able to wear cool 3D glasses makes the movie even cooler. Experiencing the first 3D movie of a child with him or her laughing to himself or herself and waving his or her hand constantly in front of those cool 3D glasses – PRICELESS!

The latest movie franchise that Sony Pictures’, “The Pirates”, is about to release. But before being able to wrap up things, the technical staff have gone a long tiresome months to generate and let a single character come to life. Although they make use of molding – clay and stop – motion animation to express the characters’ feelings through their eyes, the Aardman Animations’ creator uses his new tech pet in order to let such character speak with more emotions plus to accomplish the great movie goal in a faster pace. He makes use of the newly introduced technology within the movie industry: 3D printers.

At a single glance you would notice that this talented printer looks like a conventional printer. The only thing that makes it quite apart from the traditional ones is that it works in a third dimension.  A certain substance is being fed to it that would build up layer by layer and the end result: an animated creature.

Ian Whitlock, the lead animator for the “The Pirates” movie, revealed that they had made 8,000 mouths for all the characters participating in the movie. A single character, i.e. Charles Darwin, was given 130 mouths while another, i.e. Pirate Captain, was given 257 individual mouths. Imagine so many molded clay mouths laying around the studio and the time it takes to mold each one into a perfect shape. Luckily, technology aids man to make his work faster and cuts it to near perfection. The 3D printer works as the layers build up in liquid form then the substance solidifies as it is being printed out layer by layer. From there, a 3D character comes to life.

The animators simply listen to the actors’ dialogues and from their broke down the mouth shapes onto a ‘dope sheet’ –referred to a phonetic breakdown. As the directors give the go signal of approval, they would send the mouths to a prototyped machine which would print out the mouths physically. The mouths come out in a flesh colored print so they make 14 different skin tones. Once those are done, they sand it and paint it. But even with such technological advancement on the animation team’s side, it took the animators two to three months to work on a single character. Looking at the brighter side of things, this is quite a faster pace than sticking to molding clays for all the features of a single character, not to mention the different expressions, which takes more than a year or two to complete.

The animation team are still using the clay molding method to generate the eyes of the characters which they believe are quite vital for expressing the characters’ feelings. Their next goal is to find a technology that would eventually help them out on this one and hopefully be able to make a 3D movie in a less time as possible. “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” will be released in April 27 of this year.

Pixar has been one of those amazing companies that have produced and created exciting and awesome 3D Blu-ray movies. It has made, among other things, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story trilogy and Cars, which has its own part two. With this range of amazing and popular movies, no wonder that there are lots and lots of people who look forward to whatever movie that Pixar creates.

Among the latest movie that Pixar introduced to its loyal and faithful audience is the movie Up. This movie has been both popular among young and old people alike. This movie tells a story about an old man, Carl, who has recently lost his partner in life. However, while they were together, they promised to each other that they will be having their own home at the top of one of the highest and most extraordinary falls in the world. This falls is located in South America.

But, the couples could not actually travel or built their home on top of the falls for the reason that they had no enough funds to finance their dream and goal. Then, suddenly, one day, the wife became ill and passed away leaving an old man behind. The old man lived an unhappy and depressing life until one day, a small boy scout, Russell, entered his life and totally changed it.

The small boy was a boy scout and he wanted to earn the only badge that he did not still have and that is helping an elder person. The old man was reluctant while the small boy was definitely persistent. Carl had long been working on a big project that may help him live up to his dream and his wife’s dream as well. As a retired balloon salesman, he was able to tie thousands of balloons in his house which cause it to fly. There are several exciting and breath taking scenes that can be seen in the movie especially when using 3D Blu-ray. Luckily, Pixar’s Up 3D Blu-ray will be released in May.
